Anonymous asked: Question from Australia: My guy is applying to become an officer in the navy and he was going really well till they knocked him back on the 4th round of applications and told him to come back in 6 months after working on 1 or 2 things. He's cut up over it (even though he's working hard to fix those last couple of points) and I want to help him be positive but I'm not sure how. I know he's not really in the military yet but did you have any advice for this sort of thing?

I’m not sure how it is over there, but my guy has always been told that if he wants to excel in his military career he needs to work as hard as he can, and be prepared to not be rewarded for a while. I know that sounds weird, but they really do have to be patient.

As far as you helping him, just be as supportive as you can and be there for him when you need him.

I’m not sure how the marines does it, but for my guy they were arranged alphabetically and that how they were put into platoons. If this is how they organized things it is possible that he has a last name that comes before your guys so he is in a different platoon, although they all train together.

If anyone has any experience with the marines platoon organization I have allowed replies to any posts so feel free to reply to help her out!

You know, there is a lot of debate in the “milso” community about what defines a person as a milso but to me the moment he enlists you are in it for the long haul. Now if you two were to break up a couple weeks into basic I would say that you wouldn’t be able to use that because you didn’t really do anything to deserve the title. I know that may sound harsh, but you have to earn it and that small of an amount of time doesn’t really count in my opinion.

One more note: I HATE the term Milso.  It sounds like a type of vomit. I would rather use any other term than that. I’m not mad at anyone for using it, its just a little pet peeve of mine.

Anonymous asked: Mine is going to Norther Carolina I think for MCT. Why do they have MORE combat training if they've already been though 3 months of bootcamp. (Mine is in Parris Island to become a Marine).

Marines are a more infantry based organization of the military which is why they have more training after basic. Some army,navy,and air force have their MOS as an infantryman and they do a similar training to the marines.

So MCT is Marine Combat Training, its usually what they call basic training. MOS is a persons Military Occupational Specialty and its not a training its their specific job title. MOS is just what they call the job titles as a whole. For example my guy is a 68W which is a Combat Medic. That is his specific MOS. The training after basic is called different things for different branches, but that is where you go to get trained in your specific MOS.

My guy went to A.I.T. (Advanced Individual Training) for his certification to become a 68W.

He told me that he should have listened to his 1st instincts of not being ready. He also said however that he wanted to stay in touch with me & write to me when he was at recruit training & when he had his 10 day leave , he wanted to spend time with me. He said he wanted to stay friends, but because he didn’t know what was gonna happen in 6 months he didn’t want a relationship. However he wanted to &was willing to maybe have 1 later. I’m confused. Is this a nice way of saying friendzoned?

I don’t think he is trying to friendzone you, I just think he’s worried that he is going to hurt you and isn’t ready for a long distance relationship yet.  I don’t think it really has anything to with you personally, I just don’t think he wants that type of relationship right now.

Ask him questions about what he is going to be doing and talk to him about all of the things that you are worried about happening while he is gone. For me the more we talked about things the easier it was for us, because a lot of the things we talked about did come up and it was nice having a decision made when we were thinking rationally.

I know that you are scared about being away from him, but you have to remember that he is just as scared as you are so you need to be there for each other. The stronger you are together the better you will be when you are apart.

I would say that it would be to get used to being alone. The sooner you are able to deal with yourself, the easier it will be for you to handle being away from him.
